Śrīla A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda (BBT Photograph)

Śrīla Prabhupāda appeared in Calcutta in 1896, the same year Bhaktivinoda published Jaiva Dharma and dispatched his English monograph to McGill University. Instructed in 1922 by Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī to preach Caitanya's teachings in the West, Prabhupāda traveled to America in 1965 and inaugurated a global Hare Krishna explosion.

Historical Context

Throughout his world tour and authoritative purports, Śrīla Prabhupāda attributed the impetus of his entire movement to Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, calling him the pioneer of modern Krishna consciousness who predicted that devotees of all lands would chant together in Māyāpur.

Why This Matters

Demonstrates the living fulfillment of the disciplic succession: from Bhaktivinoda's prayers in Bengal to the worldwide chanting of the mahā-mantra in over 100 countries.
