Śaraṇāgati: The Six Limbs of Full Surrender

শরণাগতি (ষড়ঙ্গ আত্মসমর্পণ)

Full surrender to Kṛṣṇa is not passive fatalism, but the active dedication of mind, body, home, and destiny to the care and guidance of the Supreme Lord.

The Essential Teaching

Surrender manifests through six defined limbs: (1) Dainya (humility), (2) Ātma-nivedana (offering the soul), (3) Goptrtve-varaṇa (accepting Kṛṣṇa as sole maintainer), (4) Rakṣiṣyatīti viśvāsa (unshakeable faith in Kṛṣṇa's protection), (5) Bhakti-anukūla-mātra kāryera svīkāra (accepting what is favorable to devotion), and (6) Bhakti-pratikūla-bhāva varjanāṅgīkāra (rejecting what is unfavorable).

Understanding the Teaching

In the celebrated song 'Mānasa, Deho, Geho,' Bhaktivinoda demonstrates that surrender is deeply practical for family people: one dedicates home, family, talents, and possessions to Kṛṣṇa, acting not as an anxious proprietor, but as a faithful trustee managing the Lord's estate.

Practical Reflection for Daily Life

When anxious about outcomes, pray: 'My Lord, I entrust this burden to You. I will do my duty faithfully, but my ultimate shelter and maintainer is You alone.'

Application: Evaluate your daily choices against the twin standards: Is this favorable to remembering Kṛṣṇa? Is this unfavorable? Act accordingly.
